ICES receives requests to host or sponsor symposia both from within our own community as well as from other organisations.
A request for ICES sponsorship must be made at least one year in advance of the event and must be made using the draft resolution template. Requests may be directed towards ICES Secretariat or the Head of ICES Science Programme and should include a draft budget. The deadlines are: 1 March and 1 September.
ICES sponsorship implies one or more of the following
Endorsement by ICES of the objectives and scientific excellence of the planned symposium
An opportunity to publish symposium proceedings in the ICES Journal of Marine Science
The topic addresses ICES science or advisory priorities
The theme should be in-line with the ICES Strategic and Science plans
High quality scientific outcomes expected
Well established scientific credibility of the conveners
Sufficient time and space prior to the event to accommodate ICES, especially the inclusion of ICES scientists on the Scientific Steering Committee
A sound financial basis is expected
ICES sponsorship is of mutual importance for ICES and for the requesting partner
The final decision to co-sponsor a science symposium is made by SCICOM.
