Advisory Programme Supporting Officer

We are currently in search of an enthusiastic person to join our Secretariat Advisory Department team in Copenhagen, Denmark.

​The Advisory Department comprises 16 staff members who support the delivery of advisory products from single fish stocks to multi-species and mixed fisheries advice. The Supporting Officer will work with and support highly skilled professionals both from the Secretariat and wider ICES community in order to fulfil the requests for scientific advisory services provided by ICES. 

We seek a service-minded colleague to fulfill the below responsibilities:

  • ​Act as key contact to the ICES networks (expert groups, steering groups and committees), providing services such as coordination and technical preparation of meetings, report processing, and dissemination;
  • Support the Steering Group for Fisheries Resources;
  • Assist Professional Officers and other Secretariat team members with tasks like writing of reports and documents, project related work, communication with third parties and organization of meetings; Engage in the development of internal structures facilitating documentation, communication and archiving of information relevant for the Advisory work (e.g. Terms of References, etc.);
  • Communicating across departments to integrate tasks and projects as well as standardize daily work; and
  • Carry out routine administration and coordination functions

​Required qualifications:

  • A bachelor's level education or equivalent vocational experience
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of fields related to the marine environment
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications (experience with SharePoint desirable)
  • An eye for detail and the ability to maintain a good overview of tasks, even when things get hectic
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, collaborative and professional attitude
  • Fluency in written and oral English
Terms of appointment

The appointment will be full-time (38 hours per week), for a four-year contract period starting in mid-March 2019 or as soon as possible.

ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. The salary for this role is situated at the “C4" grade which is exempt from Danish income tax and is based on, but not identical to, the United Nations common salary system.  A tax-free pension scheme is available.

The ICES Staff Rules set out the conditions and principles of employment for the Secretariat staff.
