The DKK 500,000 (EUR 67,000) fund will support projects with specific value-added science activities that contribute to attaining the goals of the new ICES Strategic Plan. Such activities would include joint data analyses and writing of synthesis papers.
"With this fund, ICES wants to communicate that it remains true to its vision: To be a world leading scientific organization concerning marine ecosystems. The fund is one of many initiatives to continue to attract academic expertise to ICES and spur their cooperation with governmental institutions", said Manuel Barange, Chair of the ICES Science Committee.
Call for proposals now open
Interested applicants are invited to submit project proposals for consideration for funding by ICES. The deadline for applications is 15 February 2014.
The fund supports up to 10 projects with travel and subsistence costs. Proposals submitted by scientists in the early stages of their careers will be given priority. The fund does not support regular meetings of ICES science or advisory expert groups, and will not include salaries or institutional overheads.
Proposals will be evaluated and prioritized at the March 2014 meeting of the ICES Science Committee (SCICOM), and successful applicants will be informed in April 2014 for immediate implementation of their projects.
