What is a steering group?

ICES currently has more than 150 expert groups that develop science and the basis for ICES advice. Depending on the group's main focus, it reports to our Science Committee (SCICOM) and/or our Advisory Committee (ACOM). SCICOM oversees all aspects of ICES scientific work while ACOM is responsible for advice and relationships with the recipients of advice. Interactions between these committees and expert groups are supported by seven steering groups:

Each steering group addresses a broad area of science and advice and parents a number of expert groups. Collectively, these steering groups oversee a significant proportion of the activity of ICES expert groups, as described in our Science Plan and Advisory Plan.

Steering groups are responsible for guiding and supporting expert groups, helping to ensure their work is effectively coordinated, conducted, and reported.

The deadline for nominations is August 21.
