Mapping the foodweb of ICES science

Working group WGMARS convenes in Sweden to work on, amongst other things, analyses of ICES social network.
Published: 8 November 2013

Members of ICES Working Group of Maritime Systems – WGMARS – have got together for their annual meeting at the Stockholm Resilience Centre this week, the venue being chosen in light of the important social network analyses WGMARS are currently carrying out.

The continuation of evaluations, forming one of the group's multi-annual Terms of Reference (ToRs), seeks to describe how ICES ecosystem science is conducted and delivered to clients. Data from both May 2012 questionnaires and expert group participation will form the basis for the analyses. Because of Stockholm Resilience Centre's expertise in social-ecological systems, the organization was seen as the perfect host in terms of facilitating interaction.

WGMARS has been joined this year by eight representatives from five Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) to discuss how stakeholder-scientist working relationships can be strengthened. The group is also looking into the dynamics of Management Strategy Evaluations (MSEs).
