WGECCA focuses on ways to consider ecological carrying capacity in evaluating aquaculture opportunities and constraints.

The group will review existing methods for estimating ecological carrying capacity to produce guidelines for considering aquaculture scenarios under different geographic scales and conditions. Their work endeavours to increase understanding of how nutrients flow through wild and aquaculture production scenarios in different habitats and how the ecological relationships and trade-offs therein could be affected. In so doing, identifying critical data gaps and developing recommendations for addressing them in light of maximizing ecosystem service opportunities through sustainable aquaculture.
