ICES Training Programme was established in 2009 and links in with national expertise on teaching at places such as national institutes and universities. ICES Training Programme doesn't compete with such institutions but rather fills gaps in knowledge for marine scientists operating in the advisory process.
The programme consists of an administrative core at ICES Secretariat and ICES Training Group. The Training Group oversees the training programme and sets up guidelines to identify the appropriate teachers that should be involved in courses.
The Training Group welcomes proposals for new courses. National laboratories, universities, and other institutions or research networks are invited to suggest courses on specific topics and recommend course instructors. The Training Group will review and select the courses to be offered. New courses will be developed, and each of the existing courses will be evaluated regularly, both in terms of feedback from participants and to what extent it meets the needs of ICES Advisory and Science programmes.
